Celebrating Zero Waste Day

𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐙𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞

Observed on March 30 annually, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐙𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 was established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and UN-Habitat to promote 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. This global initiative emphasizes the need to 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞, 𝐞𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬 to protect the environment and combat climate change. It calls on 𝐠𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬, 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 to take action toward a 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞-𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 through responsible waste management.

To commemorate this day, the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) organized a cleaning campaign in collaboration with students from the Bhutan Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (BITH), led by Mr. Gyembo, in the core town area of Thimphu. This initiative highlights the importance of 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 in keeping our environment clean and sustainable.
