𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 (DECC & BTFEC)

Thimphu, Bhutan | 15 December 2025 — The Department of Environment and Climate Change  (DECC), under the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Royal Government of Bhutan, signed a Small Grant Funding Agreement with the Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation (BTF) on 15 December 2025 to support  “Review of the Effectiveness of the Plastic Ban in Bhutan.”

The agreement formalizes collaboration between DECC and BTF to undertake a comprehensive review of Bhutan’s plastic ban, with a focus on assessing policy implementation, effectiveness, compliance levels, and associated challenges. The study aims to generate evidence-based findings to inform policy improvements and strengthen national measures to address plastic pollution.

The initiative reflects the shared commitment of DECC and BTF to environmental protection, sustainable waste management, and informed decision-making. The outcomes of the research are expected to support enhanced regulatory frameworks and contribute to Bhutan’s broader environmental conservation goals.

Both institutions reaffirmed their dedication to working collaboratively to support policies and actions that safeguard Bhutan’s natural environment for present and future generations.
