𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐦 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭

On 16 April, an Interim Workshop under the Solid Waste Management Capacity Development Advisory Project was successfully conducted, led by the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC), Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The workshop brought together key stakeholders, including Mr. Yoichiro Kimata, Chief Representative of the JICA Bhutan Office, and Mr. Ugyen Dorji, Thrompon of Thimphu Thromde, who recently participated in a study visit to Japan in February 2026. Representatives from central and local governments, as well as the private sector, also took part in the discussions.

Participants emphasized the importance of aligning the Waste Management Roadmap with the forthcoming revised National Waste Management Strategy. The session also highlighted the need to contextualize insights gained from the Japan study tour and strengthen collaboration among government agencies, local authorities, private stakeholders, and development partners.

DECC and JICA reaffirm their commitment to working closely with all partners to advance sustainable and effective waste management practices in Bhutan.
