The Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) hosted a two-day stakeholder consultative meeting on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) from 13th - 14th March 2025, in Thimphu. The consultation aimed to assess the feasibility of implementing EPR in Bhutan by engaging key stakeholders from relevant agencies.

The consultation brought together environment officers from various regions, along with representatives from key agencies whose input was essential for shaping EPR policies in the country. Black Forest Solutions, a firm renowned for its expertise in waste management and environmental regulations, facilitated the discussions.

Extended Producer Responsibility is a policy approach that holds producers accountable for the entire lifecycle of their products, including post-consumer waste management. The consultation discussions highlighted the potential benefits of implementing EPR in Bhutan, including enhanced resource efficiency, promotion of recycling, and reduction of environmental pollution.

The DECC appreciated the active participation of all stakeholders who contributed valuable insights towards developing a more sustainable waste management framework in Bhutan.
